Shooting investigated in South Hill / November 28, 2018
An argument at South Hill Country Club ended early Saturday morning when one man was shot in the hand.

Police are not releasing the name of the victim or the suspected gunmen while the case remains under investigation.

A spokesman with the Mecklenburg County Sheriff’s Office said Deputy Cameron Hatcher was called to the ER at VCU Health Community Memorial Hospital in South Hill around 1 a.m. on Saturday to meet with a man who’d sustained a gunshot wound. During his interview, Hatcher learned that the victim was at a party at the country club when he got into an argument with an unspecified number of individuals. Guns were pulled, and the victim was shot in the hand. A green Ford Mustang parked nearby also sustained damage in the shooting.

Later that same day, Sgt. Brent Evans was called to investigate reports of a man walking along Evans Street in La Crosse while firing a gun. The call came in around 9 p.m. on Saturday.

At the completion of his investigation, Evans arrested Daquane Ta’Jai Walk, 23, of Kenbridge. He was charged with reckless handling of a firearm and being drunk in public. After being served with a warrant for both charges, he was released on his recognizance. His next court date is Jan. 10.
