Single-car crash kills Crystal Hill man, injures passenger
SoVaNow.com / June 30, 2014A 54-year-old Crystal Hill man died at the scene of a single-car accident early Sunday morning, June 29 that also left a passenger in the vehicle seriously injured.
Edward C. Collins was the driver of a 2013 Toyota Corolla that ran off the left side of State Route 621, about a mile east of its intersection with Tom’s Trail, and struck a tree head-on.
Collins was not wearing a seatbelt, but he was not ejected; multiple air bags were deployed upon impact, according to Virginia State Police. The passenger in the front seat of the vehicle, 45-yea-old Cindi Collins, was wearing a seatbelt. She was transported to the local hospital with severe injuries.
Virginia State Trooper J. R. Abbott said speed was a likely factor in the accident, which occurred at 12:35 a.m.
