South Boston closes parks, curtails events / March 26, 2020
Gov. Ralph Northam has issued Executive Order 53 effective from March 24-April 24. It applies to the entire Commonwealth of Virginia. This order places restrictions on businesses that serve the public in addition to the CDC recommendations to limit public gatherings to less than 10, and social distancing of 6’ between people.

The governor may adjust this order or issue new orders as needed given the quickly-changing public health situation. The governor is urging all Virginians to limit non-essential travel, practice social distancing and keep 6’ apart from others.

All public and private gatherings of more than 10 people are banned.

In response to the Executive Order, the Town of South Boston has implemented the following procedures, effective immediately:

Events – All events held at any South Boston facility are postponed or cancelled. This includes scheduled public meetings.

Essential Services – All essential services such as Fire, EMS, Police and Refuse Collection will operate as normal. Public Works will operate as normal using all safety protocols.

Parks and Recreation – All Parks and Recreation activities are cancelled. Parks are closed to the public.

Administration – Town Hall is closed to the public. We are utilizing teleworking as much as possible. We are enhancing sanitizing practices on common surfaces. We are available by email or telephone.
