South Boston Council convenes / August 12, 2019
South Boston Town Council will meet Monday at 7 p.m. to take up a light agenda that includes a request to help fund a Walkway of Honor for Southside Virginia World War II veterans at the Virginia War Memorial in Richmond.

The request surfaced as part of the 75th anniversary commemoration of D-Day, the epic campaign to wrest Europe from Nazi control in which soldiers from Halifax County and other area localities served and died. Organizers of the Walkway of Honor say it will provide representation for Southside Virginia soldiers and sailors at the War Memorial, on par with that for other parts of the state.

Also on the agenda for tonight’s meeting, Council will hold a second reading of budget amendments to fund building and street improvements, and Council members will recognize outstanding young citizens of the town.

The 7 p.m. meeting will be held at Council Chambers at 502 Yancey Street.
