News South Boston, Halifax councils to hold first meetings of new yearSoVaNow.com / January 11, 2021
Town council members in South Boston and Halifax will meet this week for their first sessions of the new year. The January meeting of South Boston Town Council is set for tonight at 7 p.m. at the Washington Coleman Community Center on Jeffress Boulevard. Council members are slated to present resolutions honoring retiring Police Chief Jim Binner and First Sgt. Tim Vanaernem, who has completed 22 years of service with the South Boston Police Department. Council members also are expected to hear presentations by SVHEC Executive Director Betty Adams and Tamyra Vest with Destination Downtown South Boston. Council also will be asked to sign off on the hiring of Dennis Barker as South Boston assistant town manager. On Tuesday, it’s the turn of Halifax Town Council to hold its first meeting of 2021. Halifax Council members will meet in committee work session starting at 6:30 p.m., followed by the regular monthly meeting at 7 P.M. Council is expected to elect a vice mayor for the Town of Halifax and witness the presentation of annual awards by the Halifax Police Department. Both council meetings are open to the public.
