South Boston offers classic car showcase

South Boston News / June 11, 2018
Some 200 classic vehicles valued at $5 million were on display Saturday as Downtown South Boston drew a big crowd for its annual Cruz-In.

The automotive showcase featured rat rods, custom rods, original, barn finds, drag cars, sports cars and motorcycles, just to name a few. Each driver that registered received a dash plaque and a goodie bag with items donated from 115 local businesses. The streets were filled with onlookers uttering oohs and awhs.

The event was a big draw for local tourism as vehicles and guests came from neighboring counties of Person, Caswell, Campbell, Pittsylvania, Vance and Henry and the town of Chatham.

Guests enjoyed food from the downtown restaurants and food vendors parked along the streets. The weather was a little warm at the beginning but turned out to be a enjoyable, rain-free afternoon.

The event could not have taken place without the efforts of town employees, local vendors, restaurants, local businesses, and volunteers. Many hours and meetings were held to make this event happen, with the help of local car enthusiasts, the Old School Car Club, Tinkers Car Club and volunteers from the town.
