Santa begins making his local rounds by sleigh this Sunday as the Towns of South Hill and Chase City host their annual Christmas parades.

Starting Sunday at 2 p.m., the Jolly Elf will ride through downtown South Hill as the special guest of the South Hill Chamber/Touchstone Bank Christmas Parade. Featuring floats, marching bands, fire trucks, pageant winners and grand marshal Leroy Sasser, the South Hill parade is one of the many highlights of South Hill Hometown Christmas, a weekend slate of events that includes ice skating, a holiday farmers market, the Tell Santa children’s festival and illumination of the town Yuletide tree.

Sunday at 6 p.m. it’s Chase City’s turn to host Santa as the town holds its twilight Christmas parade. Families will enjoy the spectacle of the holidays as civic groups, schools, churches and other groups show off their floats and parade entries and local high school bands entertain with Christmas tunes. Also this weekend in Chase City, MacCallum More Museum & Gardens holds its Grand Illumination and the Chase City Christmas Bazaar returns. Both events are Saturday, with the Estes Center bazaar taking place from 9 a.m.-1 p.m., and the MMMG Grand Illumination from 5-9 p.m. that evening. It continues through the holiday season.
