Suspect arrested for attempted murder

South Boston News
Hunt / September 20, 2021

A South Boston man has been charged with attempted first degree murder after allegedly shooting at a car occupied by two people early Wednesday morning.

Keith Antonio Hunt was arrested following the incident, which took place on Webster Street near Penick Park shortly after 1 a.m. on Sept. 15. The vehicle was struck multiple times by gunfire but “thankfully, no one was hurt,” said South Boston Police Chief Bryan Young.

Police gathered evidence at the scene consistent with an intentional shooting by someone in the area. Young said Hunt has a past relationship with one of the vehicle’s occupants.

After being arrested, Hunt was taken to the Halifax County Adult Detention Center in Halifax where he is being held without bond. He has been charged with attempted murder, felony use of a firearm, second or subsequent offense, and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.

He has also been charged with separate counts of reckless handling of a firearm and maliciously shooting at a car.

South Boston Police Officer C. Mann was the arresting officer.
