Suspect nabbed amid pot plants

SoVaNow.com / July 08, 2013

The Halifax County Sheriff’s Department has arrested Chris Anderson, 35, and charged him with growing marijuana after the suspect was found standing in a field of marijuana plants.

Acting on a tip, Sheriff’s Deputy Seth Bowen spotted Anderson in a field off Newtown Road in the Cluster Springs community. The arrest took place sometime between 3 and 4 p.m. on Thursday, July 4.

Police say the field contained some 21 marijuana stalks.

According to Sheriff Fred Clark, Anderson ran from the field into a wooded area when he saw deputies arrive at the scene.

Deputy Al Bates was called in with his tracking dog, and Anderson was soon found in a creek running through the woods.

Anderson is being held in the Blue Ridge Regional Jail on a $25,000 bond. According to Clark, more charges are likely to be forthcoming.
