Suspects sought after gunfire at apartments / February 21, 2018
South Hill Police are seeking information on the person or persons who shot up several apartments and cars Friday night at Mecklenburg Manor Apartments, located in the 700 block of Ferrell Crescent Street.

Police received a complaint of shots fired around 10:28 p.m. Friday, Feb. 16. Officers arriving at the scene found a number of spent cartridges in the parking lot of the apartment complex. While investigating, officers determined that multiple apartments and vehicles had been struck by gunfire but will not speculate about the reason for the shootings.

“We have a working theory, but are not releasing that information,” said South Hill Police Chief Stuart Bowen.

Shortly after the salvo, police were called to the emergency room at VCU Health Community Memorial Hospital where doctors were treating a gunshot victim for non-life threatening injuries.

Bowen did not say if the victim was involved in the shooting, only that the individual was not a resident of the apartment complex and the incident is actively under investigation. Police are also not releasing any information about the type of gun used.

Bowen asked the public to call the South Hill Police Department at 434-447-3104 or 911, with information about the incident. He said, “You can also text an anonymous tip to, keyword SHPDTIP + your tip to 847411.”
