SVHEC showcases offerings Sunday with open house
SoVaNow.com / April 18, 2013The Southern Virginia Higher Education Center (SVHEC) and educational partners are planning a full afternoon of activities Sunday for Open House 2013. The open house will be held April 21 from 2-5 p.m. at 820 Bruce Street in South Boston. The following activities will be highlighted:
Technology Demonstrations: Center of Nursing Excellence, Welding Simulator, R&D Center for Advanced Manufacturing & Energy Efficiency
Information sessions: Halifax County Industrial Development Authority “The Jobs Predicted for Southern Virginia and the Programs to Get You Job Ready”
Southside Virginia Community College and Danville Community College “How to Make the Community Colleges Work for You”
Mary Baldwin College “Bachelors Degrees and Teacher Licensure Programs; We Take Your Success Personally”
Southside Tobacco Region Scholarship Program “Applying to the Tobacco Region Scholarship”

Southside Virginia Community College Truck Driver Training Rig on Display
Light refreshments and drawing for door prizes including Google Nexus 7 Tablet, $100 Chamber Check, $25 iTunes Gift Card, and other prizes
SVHEC educational and workforce partners will be present to share information about programs and financial aid. Representatives from Averett University, Danville Community College, ECPI University, Educational Opportunities Center, GENEDGE Alliance, Halifax Educational Foundation James Madison University (non-credit programs), Mary Baldwin College, Old Dominion University, Southside Virginia Community College, Southside Tobacco Region Scholarship, Telamon Corporation, Virginia Technical Institute, Virginia Manufacturers Association, and Workforce Services@SVHEC will be present.
The open house will be an opportunity to see the many college and career options available in Halifax County. The SVHEC is advancing Southern Virginia’s economic potential through education, innovation, and collaboration.
