Swim with your dog at ‘Paws In The Pool’

South Boston News
SoVaNow.com / August 05, 2019

The second annual “Paws In The Pool” swim-with-your-dog day returns to Staunton River State Park on Saturday, Sept. 7, with new sponsors this year and loads of fun in store for pooches and their owners.

The event, a fund raiser for the Halifax Dog Squad, is being sponsored this year by Italian Delight Family Restaurant, Love Shop Veterinary Clinic and “Crossroads With the Burtons,” a new Sportsman Channel TV show featuring the racing and outdoors exploits of NASCAR driver Jeb Burton and family. “Paws In The Pool” will take place at the state park’s Olympic-size pool from noon-4 p.m. on Sept. 7, rain or shine.

All dogs are invited as long as they are accompanied by their family and have proof of up-to-date rabies vaccinations.
Advance tickets are $20 and can be purchased at Frutopia, Riverdale Auto Parts, Adams Total Fitness, and the Halifax/South Boston Visitors Center. A second family dog is welcomed with a $5 charge paid at the gate.

“We are excited to have the Sportsman Channel’s new show, ‘Crossroads With The Burtons’ team up with Italian Delight Family Restaurant as our Top Dog sponsors this year,” said Vicky Allen, president of Halifax Dog Squad. “We appreciate all our other very generous sponsors listed on our Facebook page.

“Proceeds from our sponsors and ticket sales enable us to be ready for the large influx of dogs this fall. In the last four years Halifax Dog Squad has rescued over 2,000 dogs and this year alone, we’ll add almost 800 to that number. We operate solely on donations and proceeds from our fund raising events.”

As a “thank you” for supporting Halifax Dog Squad, the first 100 guests will receive a free ice cream or snow cone. Staunton River State Park will have lifeguards on hand and the concession stand will be open to complete a fun day of swimming with your fur baby. The State Park pool, which closes for the regular season after Labor Day, will be open only to ticket holders that day.

“Paws In The Pool” offers dog owners a chance to swim with their pets and socialize with others. Don’t miss the PAW-ty!
