Three held on heroin charges

SoVaNow.com / April 19, 2018

Three local suspects have been charged with heroin trafficking following a series of arrests by the Halifax/South Boston Regional Narcotic and Gang Drug Task Force in the past week.

Two of the suspects face additional charges of distribution of Fentanyl, an opioid pain relief medication, after getting caught up in what the Task Force describes as an “ongoing” criminal investigation.

In the first arrest, on Friday, Apr. 13, Sheriff’s Deputy W. R. Cross served indictments on Ryan Harris, a resident of River Road, South Boston, for three counts of distribution of heroin, one count of conspiracy to distribute heroin, one count of distribution of Fentanyl and one count of conspiracy to distribute Fentanyl.

Harris is currently being held in the Halifax Adult Detention Center without bond.

On Monday, Apr. 16, Corporal C. J. Yeatts served indictments on Tara Barnett, a White Oak Drive, South Boston resident, for three counts of distribution of heroin, one conspiracy to distribute heroin, one count of distribution of Fentanyl and one conspiracy to distribute Fentanyl.

Like Cross, Barnett is currently being held in the Halifax Adult Detention Center with no bond.

Also Monday, a third suspect, Amber Burch of River Road, was arrested during a traffic stop directed by Task Force members and conducted by Deputy Giles Jones. Burch was charged with distribution of heroin. She is being held without bond in Halifax.

The Halifax/South Boston Regional Narcotic and Gang Drug Task Force is comprised of members of the Halifax County Sheriff’s Department, the South Boston Police Department and the Virginia State Police.
