Trail ride raises $10,000 for Cluster Springs VFD

South Boston News / September 21, 2020
Equine enthusiasts came from all over Virginia, North Carolina, Tennessee, and Connecticut to enjoy the 11-mile trail ride event in Cluster Springs hosted by the Cluster Springs Volunteer Fire Department on Saturday.

Now in its eighth year, the fire department fundraiser went off without a hitch. Even with the four inches of rainfall on Thursday, the trail was in perfect condition for the Saturday ride. Riders participated on horseback and in horse drawn carriages. Plus many locals came out Saturday night to enjoy live entertainment by Jeb and the Steel Young Band.

“We had about 40 people come just for the music,” said CSVFD Chief Chris Hudson, adding there were 207 participants in the trail ride.

Triple T Tack, from Dinwiddie, was on hand for riders who needed tackle or gear for the ride.

“All of this would not be possible without help from the generous land owners who let us use the trails, and especially Sammy Watts, who allows everyone to camp on his farm,” said Hudson. He also thanked the fire department’s sponsors, who were essential to making the event a success.

This year’s sponsors were: H&M Logging, Kejaeh Enterprises, Elliott’s Auto Sales, Franklins Garage, Mi Carreta Mexican Grille, Davenport Energy, Southern Automotive, Camp Chemical, Riverdale Dairy Dell, Shield Fire Safety, Burnett and Snead, Charles Anderson Lawn Care, Farm Credit, Powell Funeral Home, Bo’s Hydraulics, Gene’s Orange Market, J.W. Shelton Auction and Reality, Adam Wilkins Farrier Services, Slagle Excavation, Snap On Tools, AJ Transport, Matt’s Lawn Care, Rachel Long, Sentara Halifax Regional Hospital, Circle M Trucking, Mikes Plumbing and Electrical, and Bob and Brenda Ford.
