Two charged in thefts of off-road vehicles

SoVaNow.com / January 30, 2014

Two local men have been arrested and charged with three counts of grand larceny each.

Charged were 29 year old Robert Lee Moore of Crystal Hill and 23 year old Blake Carden Crews of Halifax. Both men are being held at the Blue Ridge Regional Detention Center in Halifax with no bond set.

The charges stem from the thefts of six four wheelers and an RTV side-by-side that were stolen from different residences in Halifax County sometime between Nov. 23 and Jan. 15.

Acting on a citizen’s tip, Lt. Mike Womack and Investigator Jeff Burton of the Halifax County Sheriff’s Department were able to confiscate a Kubota TRV 9,000 side-by side, a 2008 Suzuki LTR 450, a 2007 Kawaski, a 2001 Honda 300, a 2004 Kawasaki 700, a 2003 Honda Ranch and a 2011 Yamaha Grizzly 700.

Investigation of the thefts led law enforcement officers into North Carolina as far away as Morehead City to recover the items, which according to Sheriff Fred Clark had a combined value of $36,200.

Investigation into the thefts is continuing and Clark says more charges may be forthcoming.
