Two South Boston men have been arrested and charged with multiple felonies in connection with the armed robberies of rural markets in Halifax County in recent months.

Shyleim Williams, 21, and Tyquanta Moorman, 23, both of South Boston, are being held at the Halifax jail without bond after being arrested on Friday. The charges were announced by Halifax County Sheriff Fred Clark.

The two men have each been charged with two counts of robbery, two counts of burglary and two counts of using a firearm in the commission of a felony.

The charges stem from armed robberies at the Country Express market on L.P. Bailey Highway in the Volens area and Dollar General on Chatham Road near Halifax. In the Dollar General robbery, on Aug. 11, masked assailants gained entry into the Dollar General by breaking out the front glass door.

One of the subjects entered the store armed and demanded cash from the cashier. Both subjects fled on foot in separate directions, each in possession of the store’s currency, some of which was later recovered near the scene.

The suspects also are alleged to have carried out an attempted armed robbery at the Country Express in Volens on July 11. That incident is believed to be connected to prior similar robberies in the area in May.

In that incident, the assailants were seen wearing masks and carrying handguns, but they were unable to gain entry to the store.

The two suspects have also been charged with additional multiple felonies in connection with a Sept. 29 robbery of the Dollar General Store in Brookneal, in Campbell County.
