Two injured as vehicle strikes tree by U.S. 58

SoVaNow.com / July 25, 2013
Two young Halifax County men were injured in a single vehicle accident early Sunday morning, at 3:19 a.m. on US Route 58 about a half mile west of its intersection with State Route 836.

Injured were the driver of the 2000 Chevrolet Silverado, 19-year-old Cody Spencer of Halifax, and a passenger in the truck, 20-year-old Reid T. Roller of Scottsburg. Both were transported to Duke University Medical Center where Spencer was listed in stable condition. Roller’s condition was described as serious.

Neither man was wearing a seat belt, and Roller was partially ejected from the truck. According to reports, the vehicle first veered off the left side of the roadway. Spencer then over corrected before the truck ran off the left side again and struck a tree.

Charges are pending in the accident, which is being investigated by Virginia State Trooper D. T. Spencer. Damages to the truck were estimated at $4,500.
