Victim identified in July 6 death in La Crosse

The Mecklenburg County Sheriff’s Office has identified Jessica Stroud, 35, of Waynesboro as the victim in a July 6 death in La Crosse that police describe as suspicious.

At the time, Stroud was living in the Littleton, N.C. area and working in the food service industry.

Stroud’s body was found by Mecklenburg County Sheriff’s Deputy Dustyne Lett around 8 a.m. as he was responding to a 911 call about a “DOA” at a home in the 1500 block of Nellie Jones Road in La Crosse.

Sheriff’s Major Terry Edmonds said investigators are waiting for the medical examiner in Richmond to determine the cause of death, and the probe remains ongoing.

Friends of Stroud helped raise funds to cover the cost of her funeral through a GoFundMe account, a Scentsy fundraiser, a car wash at the Race-In in Ebony and a decal sale.

Stroud’s funeral was Friday, July 12 at 11 a.m. at the Bethlehem Christian Church in Mason, NC with Pastor Gary Ogburn residing.

She is survived by her three daughters Hailey, Nataleigh and Danielle, fiancé Robbie Gauldin, parents Jeffrey and Terry Shearin, and sisters Tiffany Shearin, Kelly Shearin, Tina Ruddy and Lee Ann Shearin.
