Woman with Halifax ties will be on prime time this Friday – on “CSI:NY”
SoVaNow.com / October 02, 2012The daughter of Dr. Chuck Parker of Halifax, who spent some of her childhood here in the 1990s, will appear on the CBS network's “CSI:NY” this Friday night.
Laura Parker will make her prime-time debut in the second episode of Season 9, "Where There's Smoke." She plays the young pregnant woman in the 1980s flashback scene.
Parker, who went to Sinai Elementary and Halifax County Middle schools, performed in Halifax County Little Theatre's production of “How to Eat Like A Child” – in the days before The Prizery, it was held in the high school auditorium, she recalls.
She also took several years of instruction at the Meredith Gravely School of Dance and remembers “choreographing dance routines for my siblings on our front lawn on Mountain Road! I still love to dance.”
Parker moved to Los Angeles in 2010 after graduating from Harvard University's MFA program in acting at the American Repertory Theatre/Moscow Art Theatre Institute for Advanced Theater Training.
Her first television appearance was on Spike TV's "1000 Ways to Die" in 2011.
Parker’s career is keeping her enviably busy.
“I feel lucky right now that I'm getting to do all three – stage, television and film – in literally the same month. I hope that luck continues, because I love all three, and don't think I could choose just one,” she says.
This summer, Parker shot a supporting role in "Mucho Dinero," a comedy feature film written and directed by Blake Freeman. In the film, she plays the secretary of the leading man, played by Casper Van Dien, who is best known for his role in "Starship Troopers." The film will premiere in 2013.
Parker can be seen on stage next month in the West Coast debut of "The Escape Artist's Children," a full-length comedy by Steve Harper, award-winning playwright and writer for the TV show "Covert Affairs." The play was a winner of the New Professional Theatre Writers' Festival in 2009.
Parker lives in West Los Angeles. She is represented by Chris Holler at Affinity Artists LA and Anne-Marie Rhodes of Marilyn's Model and Talent of Greensboro N.C.
She is also a sister of young Hannah, Lydia, Graham and Greyson Parker, all of Halifax.
