The Virginia Workforce Center is now the Virginia Career Works Center, becoming a hub in South Central Virginia for employment, training, and other forms of work force assistance.

“We are excited. You may not know this, but South Boston and Region 8 (South Central Virginia) has a certified, one-stop, workforce work center, and this is it,” said South Central Workforce Development Board Chairperson Lisa Crews.

“So we have lots of partners that are here, and we are here not just for the people of this community, we’re also here for the employers of this community. We provide a great service to our community and are happy to do so.”

Consolidation of services has been ongoing work, and the new sign for Virginia Career Works Center revealed a new design featuring a Virginia Cardinal.

“So many areas across the state would have different service providers, but we have all five major agencies as partners here in the center,” said Rock Mason, director of the South Central Region for the three centers that serve the ten counties (Amelia; Brunswick; Buckingham; Charlotte; Cumberland; Halifax; Lunenburg; Mecklenburg; Nottoway; and Prince Edward) that comprise the Virginia Career Works - South Central Region.

The names for the three centers are Virginia Career Works - Lake Country Center, Virginia Career Works - Keysville Center and Virginia Career Works - South Boston Center. The Virginia Career Works Centers will complete statewide rollout by the end of the year.
