Yanceyville man arrested on drug, eluding charges

A Yanceyville, N.C. man was arrested on March 14 in the Virgilina area and charged with multiple felony counts of drug possession and eluding police.

According to Sheriff Fred Clark, HCSO deputies apprehended David Allen Weadon, 32, of Weden Road, Yanceyville N.C. after first attempting to make a traffic stop on Hites Mill Road, Virgilina. The vehicle accelerated and turned into a private driveway on Hites Mill Road as police undertook the pursuit.

When the vehicle became disabled after jumping a ditch, Weadon exited and began to flee on foot, said Clark. He was taken into custody a short time later hiding in the river.

Deputies seized suspected methamphetamine, suspected morphine tablets, suspected suboxone strips, suspected marijuana, scales and U. S. currency from the vehicle Weadon was operating. Weadon was charged with possession of methamphetamine with the intent to distribute, possession of a schedule II controlled substance, possession of a schedule III controlled substance, possession of marijuana and felony eluding.

Weadon is currently being held without bail at Blue Ridge Regional Jail Authority with more charges pending.

Members of the Halifax/South Boston Regional Narcotic & Gang Task Force and Virginia State Police assisted with the incident. The Halifax/South Boston Regional Narcotic & Gang Task Force consists of members of the Virginia State Police, South Boston Police Department and the Halifax County Sheriff’s Office.

In another drug-related arrest on March 7, James Arthur Gooch, 53, was taken into custody by members of the Regional Task Force following a search warrant at a residence on Wild Turkey Run, Halifax. Task Force members seized six firearms, ammunition, cash, suspected cocaine and suspected marijuana.

Gooch was charged with possession of a firearm by a convicted felon and possession of ammunition by a convicted felon. Gooch is being held at the Halifax jail without bond. Additional charges are pending.
