Yard ablaze on Friday the 13th

South Boston News

This pickup truck belonging to Adam and Eve Landscaping & Tree Service in Chase City caught fire Friday in the front yard of Joe and Brooke Gasperini’s residence on Halifax Road in South Boston. Fourteen South Boston firefighters were called out Friday at 2:25 p.m. to extinguish the blaze, which apparently was sparked by the truck’s electrical system. The fire struck while the truck was tethered to a tree that the lawn service had been called in to bring down. Frederick Gailor of Chase City, owner of the business, said he was sitting in the vehicle unaware of the flames when co-worker rushed up shouting for him to get out. No one was injured, but the vehicle was gutted. South Boston personnel were assisted by one fightfighter from Halifax and remained on the scene until 3 p.m.
