The deadline for payment of county real estate and personal property taxes for 2010 will be Dec. 6.

Proposed power plant moves closer to reality

A proposed power plant slated for Halifax County, took another step forward when Virginia State Corporation Commission gave the Northern Virginia Electric Cooperative (NOVEC) and its development partner, NOVI Energy, interim authority to begin preliminary construction work on a 49.95 megawatt “green” biomass power plant. The plant will serve NOVEC’s customer-owners.

Hearing today on wood-fired plant

The Virginia Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ) will host a public hearing tonight on a $150 million wood-burning power plant planned for construction just outside the Town of South Boston at the former Georgia-Pacific plant on Plywood Trail.
