Halifax County IDA speeds pad-ready sites

The Halifax County Industrial Development Authority on Wednesday approved a $5.86 million budget for the 2010-11 fiscal year. Revenues include a $555,750 contribution from Halifax County with industry rents and outside grants providing the funding for the remainder of the budget.

Halifax County supervisors to seek stage funding

Halifax County Supervisors on Tuesday evening approved a grant request of up to $200,000 to purchase a portable outdoor stage and lighting system. The motion to seek the funds from the U.S. Department of Agriculture passed by a 6-1 margin, with ED5 Supervisor Ronnie Snead casting the lone dissenting vote. Wayne Conner, ED6, was absent from the Tuesday session.

BIT pushing for wireless broadband by next year

Supervisors heard a brief report Tuesday evening from Mickey L. Sims, General Manager of Buggs Island Telephone Cooperative (BIT), who discussed the company’s push to extend wireless broadband throughout Halifax County.

Stage grant, fees up for debate

Halifax County Supervisors have three public hearings on the agenda for their meeting Tuesday — a day late due to the Labor Day holiday — with the proceedings slated to begin at 6:30 p.m.

Oscar B. “John” Tate died Friday, Aug. 27 at Roman Eagle Memorial Home in Danville. He had recently celebrated his 94th birthday with family and friends at his side.
