Supes have four hearings on tap

Halifax County Supervisors, meeting this evening at 6:30 p.m. in the second floor meeting room of the Mary Bethune Complex after taking the month of July off. Supervisors have four public hearings on their agenda.

Library struggles to stay on the road

Library board members on Tuesday afternoon continued to look for answers to the problem they are encountering with the bookmobile which has been in service for the past 21 years, delivering books to the more rural areas of the county each Thursday.

Contract awarded for upgrade

Directors of the Halifax County Service Authority on Thursday afternoon approved an engineering contract with Dewberry in the amount of $1.4 million to carry out the engineering work for the Maple Avenue Wastewater Treatment Plant. That was just one of many requirements placed on the Authority by USDA, which is lending HCSA $5 million, plus awarding it a grant of $10.4 million from federal stimulus funds to make improvements to the Maple Avenue Wastewater Treatment Plant.

Banister Shores water project given go-ahead

The Banister Shores Waterline Project is set to get under way after residents of the Halifax-area subdivision returned a sufficient number of positive responses to the project in Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ) surveys.

You can take the “regional” out of the Halifax County-South Boston Regional Library System. Along with the name change, the system will have to make do with $19,000 less in the budget as the new fiscal year kicks in today.

Supes back business request, finish budget

Halifax County Supervisors on Monday approved a conditional use permit that could lead to a new business for Halifax County, and they also accepted ownership of the old Virgilina Elementary School property, returned back to them from the Town of Virgilina.
