BOSIGER AWARD WINNER RECOGNIZED AFTER CLASS RANK IS CORRECTED — James T. Francis, an eighth grade student at Halifax County Middle School, (left) is the co-winner of the Gail Bosiger Scholarship Award for maintaining the highest GPA for the year among members of the eighth grade class. At an awards program Wednesday at HCMS, the Bosiger Award was presented to the second-ranked eighth student, Shea Carey, who becomes the award co-winner (right). According to HCMS Principal Magie Wilkerson, a reporting error was made by the guidance department in identifying the top 10 eighth grade students for the school year. Francis was originally left off that Top 10 list; the class ranking will change with other students moving down one spot in the order. Francis is pictured with his certificate recognizing him for attaining the top GPA in the eighth grade. Shea Carey remains the recipient of the J. Marshall Swanson Award for exemplary citizenship. That recognition was unaffected by the school’s GPA reporting error.

HCHS graduation starts at 9 a.m. Saturday
