Halifax County Public Schools’ roughly 400 fifth graders have been using error-plagued history textbooks, along with many other students around the state. But in Halifax the books have been taken up, and teachers are now using alternative materials - such as older history books still on hand and other supplementals - in teaching social studies.

A pressing matter

School trustees on Monday night recognized members of the High School ACE team who recently won the Western District regular season title and are now headed to the regional tournament. Each team member received a certificate from School Board chairman Walter Potts and High School Principal Albert Randolph.

Weather messes with school schedule, could cancel exams

If they aren’t closed outright Thursday due to the weather, Halifax County Public Schools will be on a two-hour delay for the fourth consecutive day this week.
