Trustees toughen grading policy

Halifax County Public Schools will no longer allow “social promotions” or marked-up minimum grades for students who fall short on their classroom work, a change from current policy that in some circumstances allows students to move up by grade level despite failing to show mastery of their current coursework.

Halifax County joins the majority on AYP

By failing to meet the federal standard for academic progress in the 2009-2010 school year, Halifax County public schools landed squarely among the 91 percent of Virginia school divisions that also came up short on AYP (Adequate Yearly Progress).

Three schools fall short of federal AYP standard

The three largest schools in Halifax County failed to make passing grades in annual AYP (Adequate Yearly Progress) testing during the past school year. Halifax County High School, Halifax County Middle School and South Boston Elementary all fell short of the national standard for measuring educational progress.

Halifax County School Board to get AYP update

The Halifax County School Board will hear a preliminary report on AYP (Adequate Yearly Progress) results when the trustees meet this evening in the second floor meeting room of the Mary Bethune Complex for their regular monthly session.
