Trustees seek info on efficiency study

The Halifax County School Board on Monday night voted to invite representatives of the Virginia Association of School Superintendents (VASS) to an upcoming meeting to provide information on doing an efficiency study on the county schools.

Efficiency study back on School Board agenda

The Halifax County School Board once again will take up the issue of a school division efficiency study when the trustees meet Monday in the second floor meeting room of the Mary Bethune Complex in Halifax at 7 p.m.

Halifax county trustees mull scope of efficiency study

Halifax County School Board trustees devoted most of their meeting Monday night to the proposed scope and goals of a school efficiency study in a discussion with John Ringer of the Virginia Department of Planning and Budget (DPB), who would oversee the review. Trustees took no action on moving forward with the study, choosing instead to put the matter on the agenda for their upcoming July 12 meeting.

Halifax trustees to hear more on efficiency study

Halifax County school trustees will meet on Monday at 6 p.m. in the second floor meeting room of the Mary Bethune Complex to approve final expenses and bills for the 2009-2010 fiscal year that ends June 30.

Donation made to HCPS education foundation

SunTrust Bank has stepped forward to partner with the Halifax County Public Schools Education Foundation. Ricky Hutcherson, local Assistant Vice President and Branch Manager, presented the Foundation Board with a check for $500. The Education Foundation is appreciative of local business and individual support. This year the Education Foundation awarded 27 Teacher Mini-Grants to fund projects involving 50 teachers and 18 scholarships to graduates of Halifax County High School. These are only a few of the many enhanced opportunities provided by the Halifax County Public Schools Education Foundation. These opportunities are made possible because of the generous donations from companies such as SunTrust Bank. The Foundation is a non-profit organization established exclusively for the purpose of creating and enhancing educational opportunities for the children in Halifax County.

Schools bid farewell to 52 retirees

Halifax County Public School retirees were honored Monday during a reception at Halifax County Middle School.
Fifty-two retirees of the Halifax County Public School system were honored with a reception on Monday afternoon in the cafeteria of Halifax County Middle School. “There is no way we can estimate the years of service and the dedication to the children of this county that you have provided,” said Deputy School Superintendent of Schools Larry Clark who read the names of the honorees.

Principals to seek efficiencies within

School trustees voted Monday night to give Halifax County High School Principal Albert Randolph the go-ahead to begin an internal, school-by-school efficiency study along with other principals.
