Gasperini questions trustees statements before Halifax County supervisors

Halifax County school board trustee Joe Gasperini on Friday criticized board chairman Stuart Comer’s decision to go before the Board of Supervisors to request $2.5 million in additional local funding, arguing the move was premature and hadn't been approved in advance by the full School Board.

Archery introduced to Halifax County schools

Halifax County school trustees on Monday night welcomed the National Archery in School Program, offered to the local division through a partnership of the Virginia Department of Game and Inland Fisheries and the Ward Burton Wildlife Foundation.

DECA team lauded; schools cited

The Halifax County School Board on Monday night recognized DECA team members who recently placed first in a Quiz Bowl contest. They also recognized the principals at four elementary schools that earned Virginia Index of Performance (VIP) awards for advanced learning and achievement.

The Halifax County Middle School’s Newspaper and Yearbook Staff will be heading to the 87th Annual Journalism Convention at Columbia University in New York City March 15. Other planned attractions include a Broadway show: Phantom of the Opera, Times Square, and Ripley’s Believe it or Not Wax Museum. Italian Delight owner, Viny Sarnataro, is holding a buffet special to help raise money for this trip. The buffet will be held on Sunday, Feb. 27, from 11:30 am–6:30 pm. Tickets can be purchased from any HCMS publications student for $8 or for $10 at the door. The buffet includes pizza, pasta, salad, and a drink. All of the proceeds will go towards the classes taken at Columbia University.

Halfiax schools delayed two hours

PRACTICING FOR THE CROSSING — Sixth grade students at Halifax County Middle School have been busy getting ready for their presentation of "The Crossing of the Dan" to be presented on February 17 and 18 under the direction of their teacher, Sarah Graves.
Each year Berryman Green Chapter, National Society Daughters of the American Revolution and Dan River Chapter, Sons of the American Revolution sponsor the Commemoration of the Crossing of the Dan in February 1781. Co-sponsors for the event include the Halifax County Historical Society, Town of South Boston, and Halifax County Public Schools.
