After-school program draws two-thirds of Sinai students

When you walk into Sinai Elementary School at 4 p.m. on a Monday afternoon, you really don’t expect to see many students, just the teachers getting ready to go home after a full day.

HCHS kicks off 21st Century after-school program

The B.L.U.E. Team After-School Program at Halifax County High School officially began Tuesday, Oct. 12. B.L.U.E. stands for "Building Learners Utilizing Enrichments," and this year's motto is "A Vision Without A Plan Is An Illusion," to encourage teens to set academic and personal goals and then create a workable plan to reach them.

MRSA reported at Scottsburg Elementary

School officials reported this week that two children at Scottsburg Elementary School have tested positive for MRSA and “are in school being treated appropriately by their physicians,” according to Deputy Superintendent of Schools Larry Clark.

Halifax County School Board approves bonuses

The Halifax County School Board on Thursday night unanimously approved one-time $1,300 bonuses for 1,117 full-time school employees, with 18 part-time employees receiving bonuses of $650 each. According to school officials, the money will go out with employees’ regular monthly paychecks at the end of October.

AP initiative handing out $300,000 to test takers

Celebrations will be held across the state this week to recognize the 25 partner schools in the Virginia Advanced Study Strategies (VASS) initiative, which promotes the teaching of Advanced Placement (AP) classes in Virginia classrooms.
