Pre-K art classes raising money for supplies

A public-school student in last year’s Pre-K Arts Academy wields her paintbrush over extra-large paper. The program, which immerses four-year-olds in the fine arts, needs funds to replenish its consumable supplies like paint, paper and clay.
Busy little hands go through lots of consumables in a school year: white glue (almost three gallons), tissue paper (sheet upon sheet), paint (more than you can imagine), modeling clay (by the case). The Prizery Pre-K Arts Academy, the unique program for four-year-olds operated for Halifax County Public Schools, is fund-raising for its materials budget.

Trustees consider new review option by superintendents group

Halifax County School Board members on Friday afternoon weighed a new option for a school efficiency study — a low-cost route for assessing education programs and procedures that proponents pitched as an “educational services review.”

The Caregivers of Autistic Children recently presented a donation of $2,000 to the Halifax County Public Schools Education Foundation, to fund two $1,000 scholarships for Halifax County teachers.

Halifax County trustees to weigh new efficiency study plan

The Halifax County School Board will hold a special meeting Friday at 1 p.m. in the school board Conference Room to hear a presentation by members of the Virginia Association of School Superintendents (VASS) on what they might cover in an efficiency study.

Enrollment climbs to 5,641; some still missing

Halifax County Schools are continuing to pick up enrollment as the number of students at school on Wednesday reached 5,616. The school administration bases its budget projections for state funding on an enrollment of 5,641. Over the past week, schools have picked up an additional 66 students, but administrators believe there are others who still have not enrolled.
