Friendly Corner struck again

Armed robbers struck again at Friendly Corner Store Tuesday night, marking the second time in the past several weeks that the convenience store, located on Mountain Road west of Halifax, has been robbed.

Sex offender gets 20 years

Alexander Addison Chesbro, age 25 years old, entered guilty pleas to four counts of the illegal solicitation for sex of one believed to be less than 15 years of age, in violation of Virginia Code §18.2-374.2. He will serve an active sentence of 20 years in the Virginia Department of Corrections.

Halifax County man arrested in Campbell County

A Halifax County man was arrested Monday, April 26, on a charge of grand larceny. Virginia State Police took Brian Lee Carr, 35, of Nathalie, into custody without incident.

Super 8 hit by armed robbers

Early Sunday morning, April 10 at approximately 12:45 a.m., officers from the South Boston Police Department responded to an armed robbery call at the Super 8 Motel located at 1040 Bill Tuck Highway, South Boston.

Deputies busy with break-ins, larcenies

The Halifax County Sheriff’s Department is continuing to get calls about recent break-ins and larcenies. Last week Lawrence Ewell of 5099 Birch Elmo Road, South Boston, reported to Sgt. Darnell Barksdale that someone had stolen his red garden tiller sometime during the early part of the week.

Suspect jailed after allegedly drawing gun on SBPD officer

A 21 year old South Boston man is being held at the Halifax Adult Detention Center without bond after he reportedly drew a handgun on a South Boston police officer and bit him several times. Omar Springs, who was taken into custody on Friday night, April 2 at approximately 10:30 p.m., has been charged with malicious wounding and with brandishing a firearm.
