FRIDAY NIGHT IN HALIFAX — The Farmers Market, located in the parking lot of the former Farmers Food store in Halifax, will not only offer fresh vegetables and plants for sale, but the air will be filled with music as David Martin plays at 6 p.m. and Shine takes over at 7:30. Kids will have the opportunity to show off their musical talents as well while school supplies will be collected.

Library board members on Tuesday afternoon continued to look for answers to the problem they are encountering with the bookmobile which has been in service for the past 21 years, delivering books to the more rural areas of the county each Thursday.

A WAY TO SHOW OFF OUR COMMUNITY — Four interns at the Southern Virginia Higher Education Center — Britteny Madine, Evan Irby, Ben Scarborough and Russell White — have developed 3D models of several important local sites which create digital tours for use on the internet.
Halifax County has gone 3D! Through a partnership between the Industrial Development Authority (IDA) and the Southern Virginia Higher Education Center (SVHEC), interns in the Business of Art & Design program at the SVHEC have developed 3D renderings of Halifax County’s most notable assets.

A bit of good news for South Boston council

South Boston Finance panel members got a good report from the Town’s Finance Director Erle Scott on Monday afternoon as Scott told them “We came through pretty well considering the economy.”

Thieves strike local businesses

Local businesses, particularly those in rural areas of the county, are being hard hit by thieves. The Halifax County Sheriff’s Department has received reports of break-ins at three area businesses over the past two days.
