Super 8 hit by armed robbers

Early Sunday morning, April 10 at approximately 12:45 a.m., officers from the South Boston Police Department responded to an armed robbery call at the Super 8 Motel located at 1040 Bill Tuck Highway, South Boston.

Sunshine Mills fires maintenance staff

Sunshine Mills, in Halifax, terminated 14 employees on Thursday after the Alabama-based pet food maker made the decision to contract out the work previously performed by its maintenance staff. Affected employees were notified of their terminations during a 7:30 a.m. meeting as the work day began.

South Boston Town Council will meet Monday in Council Chambers on Yancey Street at 7 p.m. with a relatively short agenda.

Deputies busy with break-ins, larcenies

The Halifax County Sheriff’s Department is continuing to get calls about recent break-ins and larcenies. Last week Lawrence Ewell of 5099 Birch Elmo Road, South Boston, reported to Sgt. Darnell Barksdale that someone had stolen his red garden tiller sometime during the early part of the week.

Halifax Council mulls request for Dixie Youth PA system

Halifax Town Council members tomorrow night will consider a request from the Halifax Dixie Youth Baseball League to use the public address system for its opening and closing ceremonies, as well as during any tournament play at the Halifax ballfield, The request will be made as Halifax Council holds its regular monthly meeting in Town Hall beginning at 7:30 p.m.

Trustees meet tonight

The Halifax County School Board will meet Monday for their regular monthly session in the second floor meeting room of the Mary Bethune Complex, will recognize winners of several competitions.
