Mecklenburg Electric holds annual meeting

Graham Bryant, a 2010 graduate of Halifax County High School, is the youngest person to be selected to address the Mecklenburg Electric Cooperative membership as guest speaker at the Annual Meeting June 16 in Chase City.
Over 500 members and family members who receive electricity from Mecklenburg Electric Cooperative (MEC) met at the Cooperative Pavilion in Chase City on June 16 for the Annual Meeting of the Membership. Chairman of the Board Bobby Conner welcomed MEC members and special guests to the event.

Nathalie man killed in crash

A 25 year old Nathalie man died on Saturday afternoon following a single-vehicle crash on Pumping Hill Road after being ejected from the 2001 Chevrolet Impala he was operating.

Farmers Market draws crowd

Dozens of residents turned out Saturday morning for the official grand opening of the South Boston Farmers Market, where shoppers found homegrown tomatoes, cucumbers, squash, cabbage, beets, onions and string beans as well as wonderful baked goods and black berries for sale. Live entertainment was provided by The Bluegrass Five.
