HRH hosts obesity symposium

Halifax Regional Hospital recently hosted a symposium addressing issues of obesity in adults and children. The Continuing Medical Education (CME) program, coordinated by Tessie Otero-Truitt, M.D., chair of Halifax Regional’s Continuing Medical Education committee and Shirley Loy, Halifax Regional’s CME coordinator, featured faculty presenters from Harvard School of Medicine, University of North Carolina Children’ Hospital, Animus Corporation and the Edward Via Virginia College of Osteopathic Medicine. Over fifty physicians and clinical professionals participated in the four-hour event. From left, P. NEW WATERLINE FOR BANISTER SHORES? - John F. An estimated 20 residents of Occoneechee Trail and Lake Shore Drive gathered Thursday to hear what officials of the state’s Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ) would tell them about the proposed water line to Banister Shores. The session, held by members of the Board of Directors for the Halifax County Service Authority, provided an opportunity for the 19 homeowners who will be affected by the new line to ask questions and air their concerns.

Kerr Reservoir allocation plan selected by Authority

Members of the Halifax County Service Authority on Thursday unanimously gave their support for Option Three of the choices presented to them for the allocation of stored water from the Kerr Reservoir.

Halifax is gearing up to open its Farmer’s Market located in the former Farmers Foods parking lot on Main Street. Market days will be Friday from 9 a.m. until and Saturday from 7:30 a.m.-until.

Real estate tax bills mailed, first installment due June 7

Halifax County 2010 real estate tax bills were mailed out last week. The State Code of Virginia requires that bills be mailed not later than 14 days prior to the due date of the taxes.

Davis named Teacher of the Year

A fifth grade teacher at South Boston Elementary School on Tuesday evening was named the 2010 Division Teacher of the Year. Patricia Davis, who has been teaching children for the past 23 years, was selected for the honor from among the ten teachers who were nominated from each of the county schools as their “Teacher of the Year.”
