There was some good news for Halifax County contained in the latest jobs report issued yesterday by the Virginia Employment Commission.

A former Halifax County resident died Sunday night, May 30 after being thrown from a pontoon boat on Mayo Lake in Person County, N.C. Tammy Annette Vicks Duke, 39, of Roxboro, was pronounced dead at Person Memorial Hospital, where she was transported after being pulled from the water some ten to fifteen minutes after the 10 p.m. collision.

Patel takes top ranking

The ten eighth grade students at Halifax County Middle School with the highest GPAs for 2009-2010 were recognized Wednesday during Class Day Awards.

HCHS graduation Friday

Graduation exercises will be held at Halifax County High School tomorrow evening, June 3 beginning at 6 p.m. in the school gymnasium. Admission to the program is by ticket only but the service will be broadcast on Comcast Channel 18, according to Principal Albert Randolph.
