Halifax to hold budget hearing

Halifax Town Council will host a public hearing Tuesday beginning at 7:30 p.m. on the Town’s advertised proposed FY 2010-11 budget which totals $880,294. The hearing will take place at Town Hall during the regular monthly meeting of Council.

Tobacco Phase I payment rates set

The Virginia Tobacco Indemnification and Community Revitalization Commission will begin the 2010 distribution of Phase I Indemnification payments in June. Verification for payment forms and Applications for Payment have been mailed to eligible Virginia flue-cured and burley producers and quota owners. Completed and signed Verification for Payment forms and Applications for Payments must be returned by the May 19, deadline in order to be eligible for the June payment.

Virgilina Summerfest May 29

The 28th Annual Summerfest, sponsored by the Virgilina Volunteer Fire Department, is coming soon. The event is scheduled for May 29 beginning at 11 a.m. with the parade followed by lunch, crafts, and entertainment throughout the day.

Car wash raises funds for Crime Line

The Halifax County Crime Line Committee and local emergency services personnel will be hosting a car wash fundraiser Saturday, May 15 from 8 a.m.-2 p.m. at O’Reilly Auto Parts on Halifax Road in Centerville. All funds raised will go toward rewards and operating expenses for the Halifax County Crime Line.

NOLAND COUNTRY FAIR DAY IS SATURDAY — Antique tractors, music and food, beautiful horses and lots of activities await visitors to Noland Village Country Fair Day, slated this Saturday in the lovingly preserved village in the Providence community. It’s here again ... Noland Village Country Fair Day, celebrated each spring in the Providence community. This year’s event is set for this Saturday, May 8 and takes place at the intersection of Cole’s Ferry, Morton’s Ferry and Lake Conner Roads.
