No comment on Halifax budget draws n

No one came forth at a public hearing held by Halifax Town Council Tuesday evening on the first reading of the Town’s $880,294 FY 2010-2011 budget. The budget, which is based on a 17.5 cent per $100 real estate tax rate, shows a 4.49 percent increase over the budget of the current year, with most of the increase coming from the $60,000 VDOT Enhancement Grant for the Banister River Gateway Project.

South Boston Town Council members received no public comment on Monday evening on their advertised $8,489,114 FY 2010-2011 budget, which shows an overall 7.3 percent decease from the current year’s budget and includes no tax or fee increases.

Drug, weapons counts filed

An early morning traffic stop on May 12, resulted in several drug and weapon charges. Deputy Tyler Clarke stopped Stevie Thomas Taylor, age 41, of 1043 Carr Lane, Halifax at around 2 a.m. Wednesday on North Main Street in South Boston for an equipment violation.

Clarksville’s 33rd annual Virginia Lake Festival (Lakefest) was recently awarded the “One of the Top 20 Events in the Southeast” certifications by the Southeast Tourism Society of Atlanta.
