Chase City adopts status quo budget

The Town of Chase City on Monday adopted a $1.95 million general fund budget that holds the line on taxes and fees and give employees a 3.5 percent raise.

Flag Retirement ceremony held in Clarksville

Ben Nolbes, Travis Belcher and Edward Eanes, members of the Lake Country Detachment 1085 Marine Corps League Color Guard, were assisted Monday during Flag Day in a Flag Retirement ceremony. The Marines were assisted by Boy Scout Dakota Pagerie and Girl Scouts Rebecca Cope, Nina Bowen, Sienna Corpus, Angelica Huston, Zorah Huston and Molly Pagerie. An estimated 50 flags were retired during the ceremony.

New law governing Farm Use tags takes effect July 1

Virginia State Police 1st Sgt. Randall K. Pearce said the VSP is attempting to alert area farmers to a pending change in the existing law governing “farm use” tags on vehicles across the state. The new law, which eliminates the registration exemption for passenger cars, takes effect July 1.
A new law enacted by the Virginia General Assembly affecting existing guidelines governing the use of “farm use” tags on automobiles statewide will take effect July 1.
