Larcenies, break-ins tie up deputies

The Mecklenburg County Sheriff’s Department has received reports of several recent larcenies across the county. On Monday, April 19 Marilyn Johnson of Old Blacksmith Road, Bracey reported a break-in at her home where jewelry was taken. The incident is under investigation.

Boydton keeps tax rates steady

Boydton Town Council last week adopted an unchanged real estate tax rate of 33 cents per $100 assessed valuation.

Harden grant request endorsed

The Mecklenburg County IDA has received preliminary approval from the Virginia Tobacco Commission for a $1.25 million grant to buy and renovate the former Harden Manufacturing building at the Airport Industrial Park in La Crosse.

South Hill’s Relay for Life May 15

Relay for Life of South Hill 2010 is turning 16, and the Relay Committee has set this year’s theme, “Sweet 16, Blowing out Candles for a Cure = More Birthdays.” The Relay, set for May 15 at Centennial Park in South Hill, will be a little different this year as it’ll run from noon-midnight.
