Entrepreneurship for business leaders offered at SVHEC

Today’s business owners face new challenges and opportunities every day, and forward-thinking organizations look to their talented managers and executives to help build stronger, sustainable businesses. With a focus on businesses operating in challenging economic environments, the Tayloe Murphy Center at the University of Virginia’s Darden School of Business and the School of Continuing & Professional Studies have designed a new Certificate in Entrepreneurship program to begin this November in Southern Virginia.

Turbeville becomes first LEED green associate in Halifax County

Thomas Turbeville recently earned the LEED Green Associate credential. LEED stands for Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design, and is an internationally recognized green building certification system. The LEED Green Associate credential denotes knowledge of green design, construction and operations. According to the Green Building Certification Institute’s Professional Directory, Turbeville is currently the only certified Green Associate in Halifax, Charlotte, Mecklenburg, and Pittsylvania Counties.

On Sept. 23, from 9 a.m.-2 p.m. at the Prizery, the Southern Virginia Higher Education Center will host its inaugural Workforce Forward 2011 Forum. The Forum will bring together business, industry, education, workforce and economic development leaders to discuss current and future education and workforce planning needs. The day will be focused on data, dialogue, and decisions, and will have a significant impact on the way you think about southern Virginia.

BHK makes donation to WoodLINKS program

BHK of America recently made a donation to assist the Southern Virginia Higher Education Center’s WoodLINKS students with expenses as they travel to Atlanta, Ga., to compete in the International Woodworkers Fair (IWF) student competition. BHK manufactures ready to assemble drawer systems and drawer components at its South Boston facility.
