The oil spill in the Gulf Coast has been the worst spill in US history and has disrupted many people’s lives in ways we cannot imagine. However, people are not the only ones affected by this disaster. Many animals and organisms have been devastated by the oil as it flows in to the ocean and reaches the coastlines. Mike Hankins, Environmental Services (EVS) Director at Community Memorial Healthcenter (CMH), and some of the EVS staff wanted to help but they were unsure how a few people at a hospital in Southside Virginia could do anything almost a thousand miles away.
