Alease Chalmers

Alease Chalmers Britton, 93, formerly of Halifax County, died Wednesday, March 8, 2017 at Calvary Hospital, Bronx, N.Y. She was born in Halifax County on Sept. 28, 1923, a daughter of the late James Chalmers and Lizzie Long Chalmers. She was married to the late Ernest Britton and was a member of Williams Temple Christian Methodist Episcopal Church.

Mrs. Britton is survived by two daughters, Joyce Coleman and husband Clarence of Bronx, N.Y. and Gale Britton of Montclair, N.J.; four grandchildren, Christopher and Jared Coleman of Bronx, N.Y. and Nikki and Peter Chalmers of Montclair, N.J.; two sisters, Mary Veney of Petersburg and Pauline Johnson of South Boston, other relatives and friends.

A funeral will be held Saturday, March 18 at 11 a.m. at Williams Temple Christian Methodist Episcopal Church with Rev. George Brown officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

Public viewing will be Friday, March 17 from 10 a.m.-8 p.m., with family receiving friends 5-7 p.m., at Jeffress Funeral Home.
