Ann Copley Baxter, 91, died Saturday, Dec. 2, 2017. 

Ann was born in Chatham, grew up in Raleigh, N.C., and earned a bachelor’s degree in home economics from the Women’s College of UNC, Greensboro.  Married in 1948, the couple settled in Norfolk, in 1959 with their four children.  They retired to the Copley family farm in 1974.  Ann was a devoted member of South Hill United Methodist Church.

She is survived by daughter, Marian (Warren) Baxter Felton; sons, Leigh and Mark (Freda); granddaughters, Sarah, Kelly, Paige, Ruth and Anna; niece and nephew, Michelle and Joseph Copley; and many cousins.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 57 years, James Baird “Bob” Baxter, Jr.; eldest daughter, Paige Baxter Horan; sister, Nancy Leigh Copley; brother, Thomas Walker Copley; and her parents, Thomas Leigh and Anna Mae Copley. 

A graveside service will be held Saturday, Dec. 9, at noon followed by a Celebration of Life Service at South Hill United Methodist Church at 1 p.m. 

The family will receive friends at her home Friday, Dec. 8 from 4-6 p.m . 

Memorial donations may be made to South Hill UMC, 106 Franklin St., South Hill, VA 23970.
