Annie Carter Smith of Alton died Saturday, May 14, 2011 at The Woodview Nursing Home. Born inn Halifax County on Feb. 15, 1914, she was 97 at the time of her death. She was the daughter of the late Johnny Green Carter and the late Fannie Stanfield Carter and was married to the late Charlie T. Smith. She was a member of the Eastern Star and the Olive Branch United Methodist Church.

Mrs. Smith is survived by a sister, Shirley C. Collie of Alton and a number of nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by a sister, Inez Boyd.

A graveside service will be held Monday, May 16 at 3 p.m. at the Cedarwood Cemetery in Roanoke Rapids, N.C., with the Rev. Robert Woodfin officiating.
