Barbara Anne Jones Murray of Virgilina, died Wednesday, June 26, 2019. She was born in Halifax County on Feb. 15, 1930 and was 89 years old. She was the daughter of Otis Dewey Jones and Mary Reeks Jones.

Barbara Anne graduated from Virgilina High School where she played basketball. After high school, she obtained a degree from Mayfair College of Beauty Culture. She was a member of Union Christian Church, where she had served as a Sunday school teacher and as a member of the Women’s Fellowship. She was a charter/lifetime member of the Virgilina Woman’s Club. In her younger days, she managed and coached the Virgilina Ruritan girls softball league and was a volunteer at Virgilina Elementary in reading with first grade.

She leaves to cherish her memory, one son Ralph Owen Murray Jr. and wife Beverly of Virgilina; one daughter, Carole Murray Tisdale and husband Joseph of Pueblo, Colo.; one sister, Jacquelyn Jones Myers of Richmond and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, friends and her very special fur baby, Miss Kitty. A special thank you to Mrs. Murray’s caregivers: Sandra Stone, Debbie Hite, Jean Hartrum, Natasha Gregory, Lucinda Gregory and Wanda Mullins.

Mrs. Murray is predeceased in death by her parents and husband, Ralph Owen Murray Sr. and a brother, Otis Dewey Jones Jr.

A funeral was held Saturday, June 29 at 11 a.m. at Union Christian Church in Virgilina with visitation from 10-10:45 a.m. Rev. Jimmy Pulliam conducted the service. Interment followed in the Virgilina Cemetery.

The family will be accepting visitors at the home, 1192 Seventh Street, Virgilina.
