Barbara Jean Thorpe

Barbara Jean Thorpe, 53, of Greenville, N.C. and formerly of Chase City, died April 4, 2010. She was a science teacher at P. S. Jones Middle School in Washington, N.C., a member of First Christian Church and a member of the North Carolina Teachers Association. She is survived by her mother, Alma Thorpe of Stuart, a sister and brother-in-law, Judy and Travis Lacks of Stuart, several aunts, uncles and cousins. A funeral was conducted at Wood Funeral Chapel Saturday, April 10 at 2 p.m. with Rev. Steve Hayes and Rev. George Herder officiating. Interment followed in Hebron United Methodist Church Cemetery. Contributions may be made to First Christian Church, c/o Nora Hoyle, 175 Bailey Dr., Chase City, VA 23924. Wood Funeral Service, Chase City, is serving the family.
