Betty Stephens Saunders

Betty Stephens Saunders of Alton died Saturday, Nov. 24, 2012 at The Woodview Nursing Home. Born March 1, 1932 in Halifax County, she was 80 at the time of her death.

She was the daughter of the late Alvis Belt Stephens Sr. and the late Sally Hall Stephens Conner and was married to the late James Gratan Saunders. She was a member of Seven Oaks Baptist Church and was retired from the J. P. Stevens Company.

Mrs. Saunders is survived by a daughter, Vicky S. Pyatt and husband Roger of Greensboro, N.C., three grandchildren, Eron Pyatt of Greensboro, N.C., Zachary Saunders and James Saunders, both of Alton, a daughter-in-law, Linda Saunders of Alton, and a number of nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by a son, Michael Saunders, two brothers, Jesse Stephens and A. B. “Junior” Stephens and a sister, Mary Watson.

A memorial service for Mrs. Saunders will be held Wednesday, Nov. 28 at 2 p.m. at Powell Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Jimmy McMillian officiating.

The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at Powell Funeral Home.
