South Boston Council votes in favor of cigarette tax

South Boston Town Council moved decisively to impose a 10 cent-per-pack tax on cigarette purchases in town by voting 4-1 in favor of the levy Monday night.

Bobbie Nell Rogers Fowler, 84, passed away peacefully at her home Wednesday, Jan. 3, 2018. Born in Brooks County, Ga., Feb. 25, 1933, she was the daughter of the late John Lewis Rogers and the late Susie Lindsey Rogers and was married to the late Ray Edward Fowler for 61 years.

Bobbie worked as a beautician and along with her husband, Ray, owned and managed Swanee Restaurant. She spent her retirement visiting with grandchildren and great grandchildren, rescuing dogs, cooking and listening to country music.

Funeral services for Mrs. Fowler will be private.
